The Queen Mother's Birthday in Thailand is celebrated on August 12th each year and celebrates the birthday of Queen Sirikit. If this day falls on a weekend day it will be celebrated the following Monday.

Throughout the country buildings and streets are decorated with lights, flowers and pictures of the Queen. Some of the most decorated cities is Bangkok.

History

Queen Sirkit met Rama IX in France in 1946 after he was already the leader of Thailand. They were married on April 28, 1950.
