New Year's Day in Vietnam follows the lunar calendar and is different from the Gregorian calendar with New Years Day on January 1st.

People will celebrate the night before with fireworks shows and eating and drinking. Many will spend the New Year day relaxing with family and friends and thoughts of good fortune for the new year.

History

With the first day of the Gregorian calendar as January 1st many have used this day to celebrate the past year and look forward to the many possibilities of the New Year. The New Year holiday has been around for hundreds of years and is celebrated throughout most of the world including the people of Vietnam.
