Indigenous Resistance Day in Venezuela always falls on October 12 each year and celebrates the peoples resistance to European settlement.

History

Under president Hugo Chavez the previous holiday called Dia de la Raza was changed to Dia de la Resistencia or Day of the Indigenous Resistance. This change was done in the year 2002 and it commemorates the local tribal resistance to European settlement.
