Coptic Christmas Day in Egypt celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ of January 7th according to the Orthodox Church.

This is a time for families to get together and have a warming welcome family reunion. Since it is a national holiday most citizens in Egypt get the day off to enjoy in with family and friends.
History
In 1582 Pope Gregory XII as head of the Catholic Church decided to change from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar. Other countries not under the Catholic rule kept with the old calendar which had Jesus's birth on January 7th.
